C’est avec tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Mme Rita (Côté) Bergeron, survenu le lundi 2 mars 2026, à l’âge de 91 ans, à l’Hôpital Queensway Carleton d’Ottawa, en Ontario.
Rita était prédécédée par ses parents, Pierre Côté et Yvonne Dallaire; par son époux bien-aimé, Donald; par ses frères et sœurs ainsi que leurs conjoints : Paul (Gertrude), Gisèle (Harry), Yolande (Reynald), Yvan (Virginia), Monique (Maurice) ; et par son beau-fils, Ken.
Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants : Thomas (Catherine), Barbara (John), Patricia et Kelly (Mike) ; ses petits-enfants : Bruce, Ellen (Andrew), Charlie, Courtney et Ryan ; ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs de la famille Bergeron : Jane Ann, Gloria (Donat), Raymonde et Julie (Ken); ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, autres membres de la famille élargie et chers amis.
Rita est née et a grandi à Richmond, au Québec. Elle a travaillé comme opératrice de standard téléphonique chez Bell à l’âge de 19 ans. Après son mariage, les affectations militaires de Donald ont amené Rita à vivre dans différentes régions du Canada. Ils sont finalement revenus s’établir à Richmond (Melbourne) jusqu’en 2001. Rita a soutenu son mari dans son entreprise d’électricien ainsi que dans ses fonctions de maire de la municipalité de Melbourne. Elle était affectueusement surnommée « Madame la Mairesse ». Après le décès de Donald, Rita s’est installée à Ottawa afin d’être plus près de ses enfants et petits-enfants, continuant de créer de précieux souvenirs en tant que « Grandmaman ». Elle aimait profondément sa famille et appréciait jouer au golf, les arts textiles, les casse-têtes, regarder les sports et jouer aux billets de bingo à gratter.
La famille tient à remercier sincèrement le personnel de l’Hôpital Queensway Carleton, de l’Institut de cardiologie, de la Santé à domicile Ontario, de Brookside Senior Living et de CBI.
La crémation a eu lieu au Crématorium Yves Houle.
La famille sera présente à l’église Sainte-Bibiane de Richmond, Québec, le samedi 23 mai à compter de 13h.
Les funérailles auront lieu à 14h, suivies de l’inhumation au cimetière Sainte-Bibiane.
À sa mémoire, des dons à la Fondation de l’Hôpital Queensway Carleton ou à la Fabrique de la paroisse de Sainte-Bibiane seraient appréciés.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Rita (Côté) Bergeron on Monday, March 2nd, 2026, at the age of 91, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario.
Rita was predeceased by her parents, Pierre Côté and Yvonne Dallaire; her beloved husband, Donald, her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Paul (Gertrude), Gisele (Harry), Yolande (Reynald), Yvan (Virginia), Monique (Maurice); and her son-in-law, Ken.
Rita is survived by her children: Thomas (Catherine), Barbara (John), Patricia, and Kelly (Mike); her grandchildren: Bruce, Ellen (Andrew), Charlie, Courtney, and Ryan; and the brothers- and sisters-in-law of the Bergeron family: Jane Ann, Gloria (Donat), Raymonde, and Julie (Ken), as well as her nieces, nephews, many other extended family members, and dear friends.
Rita was born and raised in Richmond, Quebec. She worked as a Bell switchboard operator when she was 19. After marrying, Donald’s army tour took Rita to live in a few different areas of Canada. They eventually settled back in Richmond (Melbourne) until 2001. Rita supported her husband in his business as an electrician and as Mayor of the town of Melbourne. She was lovingly referred to as “Madame la Mairesse (Madam Mayor)”. After Donald died, Rita moved to Ottawa to be nearer to her children and grandchildren and continued to make memories as “Grandmaman”. She loved her family and enjoyed playing golf, fibre arts, puzzles, watching sports, and bingo scratch cards.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Ottawa Heart Institute, Ontario Health atHome, Brookside, and CBI.
Cremation has taken place at the Yves Houle Crematorium.
The family will be present at St. Bibiane Church in Richmond, Quebec, on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 1:00 p.m., to receive relatives and friends and accept condolences.
The funeral service will be held the same day at 2:00 p.m., followed by the burial at the Ste. Bibiane cemetery.
In her memory, donations to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation or to La Fabrique De La Paroisse de St. Bibianne would be appreciated.
